The Dean Turner Award is given to recognize outstanding advisors.

Purpose

To recognize and show the sorority and fraternity system's appreciation for the many contributions which Dean Fred H. Turner made to the fraternities/sororities at the University of Illinois and the National Interfraternity Conference. To express this appreciation, awards are given annually to one person who has made outstanding contributions to their organization, the sorority and fraternity community and the University community.

Required Qualifications

  1. A man or woman closely associated with fraternity/sorority activities at the University of Illinois.
  2. Need not be an alumnus of a local chapter, but must have worked with a local chapter.

Recommended Qualifications

  1. Outstanding continuous service to national and local fraternity/sorority.
  2. Contribution to department, business or volunteer position.
  3. Active in campus extra-curricular affairs.
  4. Suggested five years or more of service to local fraternity/sorority.

Nomination Procedure

Each fraternity/sorority is encouraged to nominate one of its alumni/ae. To do so, turn in a minimum of one typed page giving name, chapter, and qualifications.

Selection Procedure

The recipient will be selected on the basis of his or her qualifications and contributions as explained in the nomination sheets by a committee composed of:

  1. The presidents of Black Greek Council, Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, and The United Greek Council.
  2. One representative from BFA and one from BSA.
  3. Two representatives from the Student Affairs Staff.

Presentation

The Award will be presented during the Greek Excellence Awards (Greek Oscars). The president of the chapter whose advisor wins will be notified in an effort to make sure the advisor is present. This means you may want to let them know you are nominating them early or try to find some way to have their plans open that evening.
