La Casa Cultural Latina Announcements

Lunch at La Casa at noon every Thursdays - various topics and guest speakers. Free lunch.

Latino Family Visit Day
is on Sunday, September 30th from 8:30 - 5pm. Families of incoming freshmen will be invited for the day to get a glimpse of what campus life is all about. Volunteers are needed for registration/check in, direct and guide families to their sessions, we will also need volunteers to spend time with the younger siblings doing fun activities while their parents are in the sessions. Please email lacasa@uiuc.edu if you are interested in helping out.

Resume Critiques at the Corners sponsored by The Career Center every Monday 3pm-5pm in conference room 211. Does your resume need updating? This is the place to come to!

The Counseling Center has office hours in La Casa's conference room 211 every Wednesdays from 3-4pm. Rene Monteagudo is available for scheduled appointments and/or walk-ins or if you just want to chat.

La Casa hosts MEET McKinley, the Health Resource Center on Thursdays 2-5pm on the second floor in conference room 211.  Medications and other things that help you stay healthy can be expensive, so take advantage of McKinley’s Health Resource Center.  For more information, check it out on the web: http://www.mckinley.uiuc.edu/

Habitat for Humanity's 6th Annual Sand Volleyball Tournament “Spikin' for Homes”
Saturday, September 22, 2007 Corner of Oak and Stadium Streets. Requirements:  Between 7-10 players,  At least two females per team.  Registraion Fee: $12.00 per person.  Check or money order payable to: Habitat for Humanity Tournament Headquarters 280 Illini Union 1401 Green Street Urbana, Illinois 61801. Proceeds from the tournament will help Habitat for Humanity end sub-standard housing right here in Champaign county. To register online go to http://habitat.union.uiuc.edu deadline is Sept 19.

Among Women
a Lesbian and Bisexual Women's Support Group is an informal student support group that provides a place to meet other women and form or broaden social support networks. Poster Contest for 24th Chicago Latino Film Festival
April 4-16, 2008 Enter for the chance to win $500 and have your design become the face of the Festival; it will be on the cover of one million newsprint schedules that are inserted in various Chicago newspapers. Support Peru's Earthquake Victims
on Sunday, Sept 16 El Toro II Mexican Restaurant located at 1805 S. Neil St., Champaign is holding a fundraiser lunch. A donation of $15 will provide you fajitas, rice, beans, guacamole, and pico de gallo and unlimited beverages. The fundraiser is from 11:30am to 2pm. limited seating will be available. Campus Rec Exercise/Eating Disorder Campaign's
mission is to supply helpful information on topics that range from nutrition topics to "What is your motivation?". They do this by placing posters throughout CRCE in high traffic areas that will grab the students attention. They need your help by joining their focus groups (not a large time commitment) to critique their previous posters and give them fresh, creative, and new ideas for the two new posters they will create this year. The LIS Access Midwest Program
(LAMP; www.lisaccess.org) seeks a graduate assistant for fall 07 (flexible hours).
