Health authorities have declared that syphilis infections have reached "outbreak proportions" in Champaign County. Syphilis is curable! A simple blood test can detect if you have syphilis. If your test comes back positive, medication can cure the infection. Symptoms of syphilis are usually painless and may go undetected. Symptoms include a painless, reddish-brown sore called a chancre, which appears on the inside of the mouth, vagina or rectum. If you have experienced these symptoms, feel you may be at risk, or are a man who has sex with men, it is recommended that you be tested for syphilis. Confidential testing is available at no charge for students who have paid the health service fee. Call Dial A Nurse at 333-2700 to schedule an appointment.

A New Publication from Vernon A. Wall and Jamie Washington
Vernon A. Wall and Jamie Washington announce plans to edit a new publication for the college and university community. Currently, the editors are in negotiation with several distributors to produce a publication that will hopefully add to the current body of knowledge that is available on sexual orientation and gender identity. As soon as a publisher is targeted, a timeline will be developed.
The first step is to ask for individuals to submit topics for the chapters that they are interested in writing on. Once this is done, a list will be sent to all interested in contributing to the publication. This way, individuals can contact others who are interested in the same topic for possible co-authorships. We will also accept chapter proposals from single authors.
If you are interested in being involved in this publication, please send an email to both Jamie and Vernon with the following information:
- Name
- E-mail Address
- Possible topics that you would be interested in writing on.
We would like to receive these topics by July 1, 2006.
