In honor of World AIDS Day, the Illini Union Board will offer a variety of programming throughout the union, including a panel discussion, film showing, variety show and displaying panels from the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt. Continuing the awareness and efforts of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, these performances give voice to different stories that bring a deeper understanding of the dynamics and impact of domestic violence and dating abuse. INNER VOICES Social Issues Theatre is sponsored by the Counseling Center, McKinley Health Center, and the Department of Theatre. This performance is hosted by Florida and Pennsylvania Avenue Residence Halls.

- FILM: Video Remains

The showing of this documentary will be followed by a discussion with the director, Alexandra Juhasz. Free and open to the public. Alexandra Juhasz, one of the AIDS movements' principal video activists, burrows into her archive of haunted images to find video remains that create a contemplative, loving memorial to one gay man lost to AIDS, and a formal and existential inquiry into what might possibly remain in the face of loss. Video Remains marks what changes and lasts after death, across time, and because of videotapes. Juhasz has made more than 15 documentaries on feminist and lesbian issues from AIDS to women's films to teen pregnancy, including the features Video Remains (2005), Dear Gabe (2002), and Women of Vision (1998), as well as producing the acclaimed narrative feature, The Watermelon Woman (1996). - Midwest Regional Summit With Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton

The American Democracy Institute (ADI) will convene its first regional youth summit in Chicago at Roosevelt University on Saturday, December 3, 2005. The FREE event will feature a morning speech by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, who serves as the honorary chair of the American Democracy Institute's youth initiative. The goal of the youth initiative is to expand the number of young people engaged in the national conversation on democracy. A select group of leaders, ages 16-34 is being invited to participate. The American Democracy Institute is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) educational and research center dedicated to improving American democracy through increased citizen participation, and by identifying, developing and supporting the next generation of civic leaders. The youth initiative will be convening regional summits around the country. The Blue Moon Coffeehouse is located in the Main Lounge of the Memorial Student Center on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University. You think you've seen her perform? Well, if it was in a smoky bar surrounded by drunk people, sure, you've seen her sing and play -- she probably even broke a string or two -- but you've not really seen her perform. Come out this Saturday and really see Melissa in her element!

- An Evening with Judy Shepard

Judy Shepard is the mother of Matthew Shepard who was murdered in a 1998 anti-gay hate crime. Shepard is the founder of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, which advocates, promotes and fosters work for social justice and education against hate. She speaks to audiences nationwide about what they can do as individuals and communities to make the world a more accepting place for everyone. More information.

- An Evening with Poet, Joy Harjo

Come and enjoy a study break and witness the internationally acclaimed poet, writer, performer and musician, Joy Harjo (Muskogee/Creek). Ms. Harjo is the recipient of several awards. She was named the 2005 Writer of the Year - Film Script by the Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers for the script for A Thousand Roads, 2005, made for the National Museum of the American Indian. She was named the 2003-2004 Writer of the Year - Poetry for How We Became Human: New and Selected Poems 1975-2001 and the 2003-2004 Storyteller of the Year for her new CD, Native Joy for Real by the Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers. This highly anticipated event is being sponsored by the NAH Programming Committee and the Office for LGBT Concerns.

As you may know, QGrads is having a fun event next Friday, December 9, our illustrious Big Phat Fancy Dress Party! This is a chance to put the doldrums of finals week behind us and dress up for fun. So wear your spiffy outfits that you don't normally get to wear. You are welcome to join us for any or all of the evening; join us for drinks, join us for dinner, join us for afterhours or all.
