Music and Band Auditions
Auditions for new students are held annually for membership in University-sponsored music organizations: choral groups, bands, jazz bands, and orchestras.
Choral Groups
Membership in a campus choral group allows you to earn credit. Auditions are held during New Student Week in August. If you wish to audition for a choir, please check this option when you select your Summer Registration Program online.
Those students that have indicated an interest in a choral audition will be contacted by the School of Music during the first week of classes with audition information.

University Bands
Students interested in joining a University band (concert bands/athletic support bands) are encouraged to contact the University Bands office after February 1 regarding marching band auditions.

- Wind and Percussion Players
Interested wind and percussion players who would like to play in one of the University's concert bands and/or athletic support bands should audition early so that you can be accepted before scheduling your classes. If you plan ahead, you can audition during Summer Registration (see Summer Auditions instructions below). - Piano and Double Bass Players
Interested pianists and double bass players are encouraged to contact the University Bands Office when fall term classes begin.
Summer Auditions: Be sure to check this option when you select your Registration Program online to schedule an audition and receive further information. If you have been admitted to a music program within the College of Fine & Applied Arts, you DO NOT need to audition at Registration.

Jazz Bands
Membership in four University jazz bands is open through competitive auditions that are held during the first week of fall classes. If you qualify, you may add the course for credit.
Those students that have indicated an interest in a jazz band audition will be contacted by the Jazz Bands Office during the first week of classes with audition information.

Orchestras
Auditions for the U of I Symphony Orchestra, U of I Philharmonia Orchestra, and Illini String Orchestra are held during the week before and the first week of fall classes. If you qualify, you may add the course for credit.
Those students that have indicated an interest in an orchestra audition will be contacted by the Orchestra Office during the first week of classes with audition information.
